To exempt exterior passageways serving a single dwelling unit or a house with a secondary suite from the requirements of Sentence 9.10.8.8.(1), which would otherwise require the passageway floors to have a minimum fire-resistance rating, on the basis that occupant load is low, travel distances from the space are short, and evacuation from the dwelling unit or suite is expected to be relatively quick.
