To exempt portions of soffits or other surfaces that enclose a projection from the requirements of Sentence 9.10.12.4.(2), if certain measures are taken [i.e. the soffits or other surfaces are completely separated from the remainder of the attic or roof space by fire blocks], on the basis that the spread of fire to the attic or roof space is controlled by the fire blocks.
