Intent 1:

To limit the probability that closures will not perform as originally intended in a fire situation, which could lead to the spread of fire from one side of a fire separation to the other side of the separation, which could lead to damage to the building on the other side of the separation.

Intent 2:

To direct Code users to Article 2.2.2.1. for requirements regarding the maintenance of closures.
