Intent

Intent 1:

To limit the probability that electric lighting will be used when daylight is available to meet some or all of the illumination needs in enclosed spaces with sidelighting, which could lead to the unnecessary operation of some or all of the general lighting, which could lead to unnecessary consumption of energy for lighting, which could lead to excessive use of energy, which could lead to an unacceptable effect on the environment.

Intent 2:

[Clauses (a) and (b)] To limit the probability that the automatic daylighting controls will not be properly calibrated, which could lead to the unnecessary operation of some or all of the general lighting, which could lead to unnecessary consumption of energy for lighting, which could lead to excessive use of energy, which could lead to an unacceptable effect on the environment.

Intent 3:

[Clause (c)] To limit the probability that the automatic daylighting controls will not adjust to available daylight in an optimal manner, which could lead to the unnecessary operation of some or all of the general lighting, which could lead to unnecessary consumption of energy for lighting, which could lead to excessive use of energy, which could lead to an unacceptable effect on the environment.

Intent 4:

To direct Code users to Article 4.2.2.9. for the determination of combined primary sidelighted area.
