Application
Application 1: 
Classification of a care facility accepted for residential use pursuant to provincial or territorial legislation where:
  • the occupants live in a dwelling unit used as a single housekeeping unit with sleeping accommodation for not more than 10 persons,
  • interconnected smoke alarms are installed in each sleeping room in addition to the requirements of Article 3.2.4.20.,
  • emergency lighting is provided in conformance with Subsection 3.2.7., and
  • the building is sprinklered throughout.

Intent
Intent 1: 
To classify care facilities accepted for residential use pursuant to provincial or territorial legislation as residential occupancies if they meet certain conditions, and to exempt these buildings from the Group B classification requirements of Sentence 3.1.2.1.(1) provided measures are taken to limit the probability of residents not being aware of fire or not having the means to evacuate safely. This is to determine appropriate requirements in the Code.
