Application | Application 1: Optical fibre cables and electrical wires and cables
installed in a building described in Sentence 1.3.3.2.(1) of Division A and permitted to be of combustible construction.
Application 2: This also applies to buildings to
which Part 9 applies [see Sentence 1.3.3.3.(1) of Division A for application
of Part 9] that are permitted to be of combustible
construction, as stated in Sentence 9.34.1.5.(1), except for electrical
wiring and cables within a concealed space in a floor or ceiling assembly
used as a plenum, as stated in Sentence 9.34.1.5.(2).

Intent | Intent 1: To limit the probability that fire will spread along the
surface of electrical wiring, which could contribute to fire growth and spread,
which could lead to harm to persons. Intent 2: To expand the application of Article 3.1.5.20. to
buildings of combustible construction [Subclause (b)(iv)].
