+
Application
Application 1:
Accelerated weathering testing of combustible cladding of fire-retardant treated wood that is part of an exterior non-loadbearing wall assembly, in buildings described in Sentence 1.3.3.2.(1) of Division A that are required to be of noncombustible construction, and where:
  • the building is not more than 3 storeys in building height, or is sprinklered throughout,
  • the interior surfaces of the wall assembly are protected by a thermal barrier conforming to Sentence 3.1.5.12.(3), and
  • the wall assembly satisfies the criteria of Sentences 3.1.5.5.(2) and (3) when subjected to testing in conformance with CAN/ULC-S134, “Standard Method of Fire Test of Exterior Wall Assemblies.”
Application 2:
This also applies to buildings to which Part 9 applies [see Sentence 1.3.3.3.(1) of Division A for application of Part 9] that are required to be of noncombustible construction, as stated in Sentence 9.10.6.1.(1).

Intent
Intent 1:
To clarify that the wall assembly must be subjected to weathering tests before the fire tests to limit the probability that the weathering of the material will negatively effect its ability to minimize fire growth and spread.
