3.1.5.16.(1)

Application
Application 1: 
Combustible piping and tubing and associated adhesives in buildings described in Sentence 1.3.3.2.(1) of Division A that are required to be of noncombustible construction, where such piping, tubing and adhesives:
  • have a flame-spread rating of not more than 25, and
  • if used in a building described in Subsection 3.2.6., have a smoke developed classification not more than 50.
Exceptions: 
Except
  • when combustible piping and tubing and associated adhesives are concealed in a wall or concrete floor slab,
  • as permitted by Clause 3.1.5.2.(1)(d), which applies to small sized pneumatic control tubing,
  • as permitted by Sentence 3.1.5.16.(2), which applies to combustible sprinkler piping, and
  • as permitted by Sentence 3.1.5.16.(3), which applies to polypropylene piping used for certain materials and liquids under certain conditions in sprinklered buildings.
Application 2: 
This also applies to buildings to which Part 9 applies [see Sentence 1.3.3.3.(1) of Division A for application of Part 9] that are required to be of noncombustible construction, as stated in Sentence 9.10.6.1.(1).

Intent
Intent 1: 
To exempt certain combustible materials from the application of Sentence 3.1.5.1.(1) if certain conditions are met, on the basis that the materials are deemed to insignificantly contribute to fire growth and spread.
