Application
Application 1: 
Method of release of hold-open devices on doors in required fire separations and where a fire alarm system is provided.
Exceptions: 
except:
  • for hold-open devices on doors located between corridors used by the public and adjacent sleeping rooms in a hospital or nursing home,
  • for hold-open devices that are designed to release by heat-actuated devices in conformance with Sentence 3.1.8.12.(2),
  • as stated in Sentence 3.1.8.12.(1), which applies to exit doors in buildings more than 3 storeys in building height, and
  • as stated in Clause 3.3.5.7.(3)(c), which applies to doors for vestibules between storage garages and other parts of a building.
This applies to buildings described in Sentence 1.3.3.2.(1) of Division A, and to buildings to which Part 9 applies [see Sentence 1.3.3.3.(1) of Division A for application of Part 9] as stated in Sentence 9.10.13.11.(1).

Intent
Intent 1: 
To limit the probability that a hold-open device will not release a door and maintain the integrity of the fire separation [in which the door is located] when the fire alarm system is actuated, which could lead to the spread of fire on the other side of the fire separation, which could lead to harm to persons.
