Intent
Intent 1:
To limit the probability that certain service equipment that penetrates wall assemblies--which also form a fire separation--will contribute to the spread of fire through the assemblies, which could lead to a loss of integrity of the fire separation, which could lead to the spread of fire and smoke from one fire compartment to another fire compartment, which could lead to harm to persons in the other fire compartment.
