Application
Application 1: 
Fire stopping materials used to separate concealed spaces into compartments where such materials consist of:
  • solid lumber not less than 38 mm thick,
  • phenolic bonded plywood, waferboard, or strandboard not less than 12.5 mm thick with joints supported, or
  • two thicknesses of lumber, each not less than 19 mm thick with joints staggered, where the width or height of the concealed space requires more than one piece of lumber not less than 38 mm thick to block off the space.
This applies to buildings described in Sentence 1.3.3.2.(1) of Division A:

Intent
Intent 1: 
To exempt solid lumber, phenolic bonded plywood, waferboard, and strandboard that have a certain minimum thickness from the application of Sentence 3.1.11.7.(1), which would otherwise require the material to be tested, if certain conditions are met that provide an equivalent level of resistance to the spread of fire.
