Application
Application 1: 
Maximum flame-spread rating of interior wall and ceiling finishes, including glazing and skylights, in buildings described in Sentence 1.3.3.2.(1) of Division A.
Exceptions: 
except as provided by:
  • Sentences 3.1.13.2.(2), (3) and (4), which apply to limited areas of wall and ceiling finishes, and to doors within a dwelling unit or in Group A, Division 1 occupancies,
  • Sentence 3.1.13.3.(1), which applies to bathrooms in suites of residential occupancy,
  • Sentence 3.1.13.4.(1), which applies to light diffusers and lenses,
  • Sentences 3.1.13.6.(1) to (5), which apply to public corridors and certain other corridors,
  • Sentence 3.1.13.8.(1), which applies to buildings required to be of noncombustible construction,
  • Sentence 3.1.13.9.(1), which applies to underground walkways, and
  • Sentence 3.1.13.10.(1), which applies to exterior exit passageways.
Application 2: 
This also applies to the maximum flame-spread rating of interior wall and ceiling finishes of buildings regulated by the provisions of Subsection 3.2.6., as stated in Sentence 3.1.13.7.(1).
Exceptions: 
except as provided in:
  • Sentence 3.1.13.7.(2), which applies to sprinklered buildings, other than buildings of Group B major occupancy and elevator cars,
  • Sentence 3.1.13.7.(3), which applies to trim and millwork in certain locations, and
  • Sentence 3.1.13.7.(4), which applies to doors in certain locations.

Intent
Intent 1: 
To limit the probability that certain finishes having an inappropriately high flame-spread property will be used, which could lead to the spread of fire across the exposed surfaces of the finishes, which could lead to harm to persons.
