Intent | Intent 1: To exempt openings in certain rated fire separations from
the application of Sentence 3.2.1.2.(1), which would otherwise require
rated closures, if certain measures are taken. These measures
are to limit the probability of the spread of fire from the garage to the
upper portions of the building during the time required to achieve occupant
safety and for emergency responders to perform their duties, which could lead
to harm to persons in the upper portions of the building, including emergency
responders.
