Application
Application 1: 
Fire protection for loadbearing steel or concrete members wholly or partly outside a building not more than 4 storeys in building height and classified as a Group A, B, C, D or F, Division 3 major occupancy.
This applies to buildings to which Part 3 applies [see Sentence 1.3.3.2.(1) of Division A for application of Part 3].

Intent
Intent 1: 
To exempt from the application of Article 3.2.2.1., which relates to fire protection, certain exterior structural members that are effectively shielded from a fire inside the building, provided they are shielded from heat radiation in the event of a fire within the building by construction that will provide the same degree of protection that would be necessary if the member were located inside the building with the protection extending on either side of the member a distance equal to the projection of the member from the face of the wall.
