Application
Application 1: 
Automatic sprinkler system in a storey that:
  • is immediately below a first storey that is not required to be sprinklered,
  • contains only residential occupancies, and
  • has at least one unobstructed access opening conforming to Sentence 3.2.5.1.(2) for each 15 m of wall length in at least one wall required to face a street.
This applies to buildings to which Part 3 applies [see Sentence 1.3.3.2.(1) of Division A for application of Part 3].
Application 2: 
This also applies to a basement containing more than 1 storey, in buildings to which Part 9 applies [see Sentence 1.3.3.3.(1) of Division A for application of Part 9], as stated in Sentence 9.10.1.2.(3).

Intent
Intent 1: 
To exclude a basement used as a residential occupancy from the requirements of Clause 3.2.2.15.(2)(a) pertaining to the installation of an automatic sprinkler system.
Intent 2: 
To expand the application of Sentence 3.2.5.1.(1) to a storey of residential occupancy located immediately below the first storey and that is not required to be sprinklered.
