Application 1: 
Automatic sprinkler system in a storey in which more than 10% of the area is classified as a Group A, Division 2 major occupancy. This applies in buildings whose building area is restricted to:
This applies to buildings to which Part 3 applies [see Sentence 1.3.3.2.(1) of Division A for application of Part 3].
Exceptions: 
except:
  • a storey in which more than 10% of the area is classified as a Group A, Division 2 major occupancy but the building complies with the conditions of Articles 3.2.2.27. or 3.2.2.28.,
  • a storey in which more than 10% of the area is classified as a Group A, Division 2 major occupancy but in addition has more than 10% of the area classified as a major occupancy that has more stringent requirements in accordance with Articles 3.2.2.20. to 3.2.2.25. and 3.2.2.27. to 3.2.2.83., and
  • a storey in which more than 10% of the area is classified as a Group A, Division 2 major occupancy but also has a portion of its floor area used for a Group F, Division 1 or 2 occupancy.

Intent
Intent 1: 
To exclude the upper storeys of a building from the requirements of automatic sprinkler system installation on the basis that Articles 3.2.2.20. to 3.2.2.83. would not otherwise require sprinkler installation.
