Application
Application 1: 
Type of construction of a roof assembly and structural members immediately below the roof assembly in a storey in which more than 10% of the area is classified as a Group E major occupancy. This applies in buildings that have no restrictions on building height or building area.
This applies to buildings to which Part 3 applies [see Sentence 1.3.3.2.(1) of Division A for application of Part 3].
Exceptions: 
except:
  • a storey in which more than 10% of the area is classified as a Group E major occupancy but the building complies with the conditions of Articles 3.2.2.58., 3.2.2.59., 3.2.2.60., 3.2.2.61. or 3.2.2.62.,
  • a storey in which more than 10% of the area is classified as a Group E major occupancy but in addition has more than 10% of the area classified as a major occupancy that has more stringent requirements in accordance with Articles 3.2.2.20. to 3.2.2.56. and 3.2.2.63. to 3.2.2.83., and
  • a storey in which more than 10% of the area is classified as a Group E major occupancy but also has a portion of its floor area used for a Group F, Division 1 or 2 occupancy.

To exempt a heavy timber roof structure and its immediate supports, complying with Article 3.2.2.16., from the requirement for noncombustible construction.
