Application 1: 
Noncombustible roof system or a fire-retardant treated wood roof system in a storey in which more than 10% of the area is classified as a Group E major occupancy. This applies in buildings that:
This applies to buildings to which Part 3 applies [see Sentence 1.3.3.2.(1) of Division A for application of Part 3].
Exceptions: 
except:
  • a storey in which more than 10% of the area is classified as a Group E major occupancy but the building complies with the conditions of Articles 3.2.2.60., 3.2.2.61. or 3.2.2.62.,
  • a storey in which more than 10% of the area is classified as a Group E major occupancy but in addition has more than 10% of the area classified as a major occupancy that has more stringent requirements in accordance with Articles 3.2.2.20. to 3.2.2.58. and 3.2.2.60. to 3.2.2.83., and
  • a storey in which more than 10% of the area is classified as a Group E major occupancy but also has a portion of its floor area used for a Group F, Division 1 or 2 occupancy.

Intent
Intent 1: 
To exclude a noncombustible roof system or a fire-retardant treated wood roof system from the fire-resistance rating requirements on the basis that the building is restricted to one storey in building height and the system conforms to Article 3.1.14.1.
