Application
Application 1: 
Construction materials in a storey in which more than 10% of the area is classified as a Group F, Division 3 major occupancy. This applies in buildings whose building height is restricted to 1 storey and whose building area is restricted to:
This applies to buildings to which Part 3 applies [see Sentence 1.3.3.2.(1) of Division A for application of Part 3].
Exceptions: 
except:
  • a storey in which more than 10% of the area is classified as a Group F, Division 3 major occupancy but the building complies with the conditions of Articles 3.2.2.81., 3.2.2.82. or 3.2.2.83.,
  • a storey in which more than 10% of the area is classified as a Group F, Division 3 major occupancy but in addition has more than 10% of the area classified as a major occupancy that has more stringent requirements in accordance with Articles 3.2.2.20. to 3.2.2.79. and 3.2.2.81. to 3.2.2.83., and
  • a storey in which more than 10% of the area is classified as a Group F, Division 3 major occupancy but also has a portion of its floor area used for a Group F, Division 1 or 2 occupancy.

Intent
Intent 1: 
To limit the probability that, other than heavy timber, combustible construction materials within a storey of a building will be involved in a fire, which could lead to the growth of fire, which could lead to the spread of fire within the storey during the time required to achieve occupant safety and for emergency responders to perform their duties, which could lead to harm to persons.
