Application
Application 1: 
Manual silencing switches for fire alarm systems, in buildings described in Sentence 1.3.3.2.(1) of Division A in which fire alarm systems are installed.
Application 2: 
This also applies to buildings to which Part 9 applies [see Sentence 1.3.3.3.(1) of Division A for application of Part 9] in which fire alarm systems are installed.
Exceptions: 
except as exempted in:
  • Sentence 3.2.4.18.(9), which applies to audible signal devices located within dwelling units, and
  • Sentences 3.2.4.21.(2) and (3), which apply to single and 2 stage fire alarm systems that are interconnected with voice communication systems.

Intent
Intent 1: 
To limit the probability that unauthorized persons will have access to the silencing switch, which could lead to the premature silencing of alarm signals in a fire situation, which could lead to persons misinterpreting whether or not a real fire situation exists, which could lead to delays in evacuation or moving to a safe place, which could lead to harm to persons.
