Application
Application 1: 
Electrical supervision for fire alarm systems in buildings described in Sentence 1.3.3.2.(1) of Division A in which fire alarm systems are installed.
Application 2: 
This also applies to buildings to which Part 9 applies [see Sentence 1.3.3.3.(1) of Division A for application of Part 9] in which fire alarm systems are installed, as stated in Sentence 9.10.18.6.(1).
Exceptions: 
except as exempted in Sentence 3.2.4.18.(11), which applies to audible signal devices located within a dwelling unit or a suite of residential occupancy.

To limit the probability that deficiencies in fire alarm systems will go unnoticed, which could lead to improper operation of the systems in a fire situation, which could lead to persons not being properly notified, which could lead to delays in evacuation or moving to a safe place, which could lead to harm to persons.
Intent 2: 
To limit the probability that deficiencies in fire alarm systems will go unnoticed, which could lead to improper operation of the systems in a fire situation, which could lead to emergency responders not being properly notified, which could lead to delays in carrying out fire emergency response operations, which could lead to:
  • delays in evacuation or moving to a safe place, which could lead to harm to persons, and
  • the spread of fire, which could lead to harm to persons.
