Silencing of signals emitted by smoke alarms installed in dwelling units.
This applies to buildings described in Sentence 1.3.3.2.(1) of Division A.

Intent
Intent 1: 
To limit the probability that smoke alarms will:
  • be inadvertently or purposely silenced [made inoperative or damaged] as a result of false alarms, which could lead to the signal devices not operating in a fire situation, which could lead to persons not being promptly notified, which could lead to delays in evacuation or moving to a safe place, which could lead to harm to persons, and
  • not be restored to normal operation after being silenced, which could lead to the signal devices not operating in a fire situation, which could lead to persons not being notified, which could lead to delays in evacuation or moving to a safe place, which could lead to harm to persons.
