Application 1: 
Size of openings for direct access from the outdoors for firefighting to every storey that is not sprinklered throughout and whose floor level is less than 25 m above grade, in buildings described in Sentence 1.3.3.2.(1) of Division A.
Application 2: 
This also applies to an access opening to a storey located immediately below the first storey, containing only residential occupancies and that is not required to be sprinklered, as stated in Sentence 3.2.2.15.(3).
Exceptions: 
except for storeys below the first storey.

Intent
Intent 1: 
To limit the probability that fire emergency response operations will be delayed or ineffective, which could lead to:
  • delays in evacuation or moving to a safe place, which could lead to harm to persons, and
  • the spread of fire to other parts of the building, which could lead to harm to persons.
