Application
Application 1: 
Design, construction, installation and testing of standpipe systems.
This applies to buildings described in Sentence 1.3.3.2.(1) of Division A in which standpipe systems are installed.
Application 2: 
This also applies to buildings to which Part 9 applies [see Sentence 1.3.3.3.(1) of Division A for application of Part 9], as stated in Sentence 9.10.1.2.(8).
Exceptions: 
except as exempted in:
  • Sentence 3.2.5.9.(2), which applies to dry standpipe systems,
  • Sentence 3.2.5.9.(3), which applies when more than one standpipe is provided,
  • Sentence 3.2.5.9.(4), which applies to storage garages conforming to Article 3.2.2.83. in buildings not more than 15 m high,
  • Sentence 3.2.5.9.(5), which applies to residual water pressure,
  • Sentence 3.2.5.9.(6), which applies to fire department connections,
  • Article 3.2.5.10., which applies to hose connections,
  • Article 3.2.5.11., which applies to hose stations, and
  • Article 3.2.5.12., which applies to trouble signal annunciation for valves controlling water supplies.

Intent
Intent 1: 
To limit the probability that standpipe systems will not meet proper standards, which could lead to such systems not performing in the way intended in a fire situation, which could lead to a fire not being suppressed or controlled, which could lead to the spread of fire, which could lead to harm to persons.
