Protection of electrical conductors that:
  • are installed in service spaces containing other combustible material, and
  • are used in connection with fire alarm systems and emergency equipment described in Articles 3.2.6.2. to 3.2.6.8.
This applies to high buildings, as defined in Sentence 3.2.6.1.(1):

Intent
Intent 1: 
To limit the probability that electrical conductors will prematurely fail when exposed to fire, which could lead to fire alarm systems and emergency equipment not properly operating in the fire situation, which could lead to:
  • fire emergency response operations being delayed or ineffective, which could lead to:
    • delays in evacuation or moving to a safe place, which could lead to harm to persons, and
    • the spread of fire to other parts of the building, which could lead to harm to persons,
  • persons not being promptly notified of the fire situation, which could lead to delays in evacuation or moving to a safe place, which could lead to harm to persons, and
  • the buildup of smoke in exit stairs or floor areas, which could lead to:
    • delays or inefficiencies in fire suppression operations, which could lead to the spread of fire, which could lead to harm to persons, including emergency responders, and
    • delays in evacuation or moving to a safe place, which could lead to harm to persons.
