Intent
Intent 1:
To exempt interconnected floor spaces in Group B, Division 1 occupancies from the requirements of Articles 3.2.8.3. to 3.2.8.9., which would otherwise require certain fire protection measures, if the number of interconnected storeys is limited, on the basis that such occupancies [e.g. prisons or detention buildings] are expected to have:
  • continuous supervision that will be able to respond to a fire quickly and, if needed, evacuate the occupants, and
  • a minimized fire load within any fire compartment.
