Objective	OS1 Fire Safety

Application	Application 1: Elevators, fire separations and balconies for floor areas that: are above or below the first storey, are not sprinklered throughout, and have a barrier-free path of travel, as stated in Sentences 3.8.1.2.(1) and (2), 3.8.1.4.(1), 3.8.2.1.(1) and (2), and 3.8.2.2.(1), and Article 3.8.2.3. This applies to buildings described in Sentence 1.3.3.2.(1) of Division A. Exceptions: except as stated in Sentence 3.8.1.1.(1), which applies to: houses, including semi-detached houses, duplexes, triplexes, town houses, row houses and boarding houses, buildings of Group F, Division 1 major occupancy, and buildings that are not intended to be occupied on a daily or full-time basis, including automatic telephone exchanges, pumphouses and substations. Application 2: This also applies to buildings to which Part 9 applies [see Sentence 1.3.3.3.(1) of Division A for application of Part 9], as stated in Sentence 9.5.2.2.(1). Exceptions: except as stated in Article 9.5.2.3., which applies to apartment buildings. Application 3: This also applies to tents and air-supported structures, as stated in Sentences 3.1.6.1.(1) and 9.10.1.2.(1). Exceptions: except as stated in: Sentence 3.1.6.2.(1), which prohibits air-supported structures from being located above the first storey on any building, Sentence 3.1.6.2.(2), which prohibits air-supported structures from being used for classrooms or for Groups B, C, or Group F, Division 1 major occupancies, and Sentence 3.1.6.2.(3), which requires air-supported structures to be designed as open floor spaces without interior walls, mezzanines, intermediate floors or similar construction.

Intent	Intent 1: To limit the probability that persons with physical or sensory disabilities will not be protected or will be delayed in evacuating or moving to a safe place in a fire situation, which could lead to harm to persons. Intent 2: To expand the application of Sentences 3.2.6.5.(4) to (6), Clauses 3.2.6.5.(3)(b) and (c), and Sentence 3.4.2.5.(1). Intent 3: To state the applications of Sentences 3.3.1.7.(2) to (5).
