Application | Application 1: Minimum fire-resistance rating of fire separations that separate a laundry room in a floor area that is not within a dwelling
unit from the remainder of the building,
where the fire-resistance rating required by Subsection 3.2.2. is permitted to be less than 1 h for:
This applies to buildings described
in Sentence 1.3.3.2.(1) of Division A of residential
occupancy.

Intent | Intent 1: To exempt the separations of laundry rooms from the application
of Sentence 3.3.1.22.(1) by permitting a reduction in fire-resistance
rating from 1 h to 45 min on the basis that the
floor assemblies in the building need not have a fire-resistance rating of
more than 45 min and, if they failed, it would negate the remaining
rating of the fire separation between the laundry room and the remainder of
the floor area. This is to supersede the requirements
of Sentence 3.3.1.22.(1) and permit a lower minimum fire-resistance rating
on the basis that the rating of the separation need not be any more than the
other assemblies that enclose the room.
