Application 1: 
Minimum fire-resistance rating of fire separations that separate seating areas of Group A, Division 1 occupancies from adjacent occupancies in the floor area, where the occupant load in the seating areas exceeds 200.
This applies to buildings described in Sentence 1.3.3.2.(1) of Division A.
Application 2: 
This also applies to:
  • tents and air-supported structures, as stated in Sentences 3.1.6.1.(1) and 9.10.1.2.(1), and
  • buildings to which Part 9 applies [see Sentence 1.3.3.3.(1) of Division A for application of Part 9], as stated in Sentence 9.10.1.2.(2).

Intent
Intent 1: 
To limit the probability that fire will spread from an adjacent occupancy to seating areas of a Group A, Division 1 occupancy, which could lead to harm to persons.
