Objective	OS1 Fire Safety

Application	Application 1: Minimum fire-resistance rating of fire compartments dividing floor areas containing patients' sleeping rooms in a hospital or nursing home as required by Sentence 3.3.3.5.(2). This applies to care or detention occupancy in buildings described in Sentence 1.3.3.2.(1) of Division A. Application 2: This also applies to tents and air-supported structures, as stated in Sentences 3.1.6.1.(1) and 9.10.1.2.(1). Exceptions: except as stated in: Sentence 3.1.6.2.(1), which prohibits air-supported structures from being located above the first storey on any building, Sentence 3.1.6.2.(2), which prohibits air-supported structures from being used for classrooms or for Groups B, C, or Group F, Division 1 major occupancies, Sentence 3.1.6.2.(3), which requires air-supported structures to be designed as open floor spaces without interior walls, mezzanines, intermediate floors or similar construction, and Sentence 3.3.3.5.(5), which applies when the fire-resistance rating required by Subsection 3.2.2. is permitted to be less than 1 h for: the floor assembly above the floor area, or the floor assembly below the floor area, if there is no floor assembly above.

Intent	Intent 1: To limit the probability that fire will spread from one fire compartment to an adjacent fire compartment, which could lead to patients and emergency responders being exposed to hazardous conditions, which could lead to harm to persons, including emergency responders. Intent 2: To limit the probability that fire will spread from one fire compartment to an adjacent fire compartment, which could lead to emergency responders being exposed to hazardous conditions, which could lead to fire emergency response operations being delayed or ineffective, which could lead to: delays in the evacuation or movement of persons to a safe place, which could lead to harm to persons, including emergency responders, or the spread of fire to other parts of the building, which could lead to harm to persons.
