Application 1: 
Closures in fire separations between fire compartments referred to in Sentence 3.3.3.5.(2) dividing floor areas containing patients' sleeping rooms in a hospital or nursing home.
This applies to care or detention occupancy in buildings described in Sentence 1.3.3.2.(1) of Division A.
Application 2: 
This also applies to tents and air-supported structures, as stated in Sentences 3.1.6.1.(1) and 9.10.1.2.(1).

To limit the probability that smoke will spread through or around closures in fire separations between fire compartments, which could lead to emergency responders being exposed to hazardous conditions, which could lead to fire emergency response operations being delayed or ineffective, which could lead to delays in the evacuation or movement of persons to a safe place, which could lead to harm to persons, including emergency responders.
