Application
Application 1: 
Minimum fire-resistance rating of fire separations that separate storage rooms referred to in Sentence 3.3.4.3.(1) from the remainder of the building, where the fire-resistance rating required by Subsection 3.2.2. is permitted to be less than 1h for:
  • the floor assembly above the floor area, or
  • the floor assembly below the floor area, if there is no floor assembly above.
This applies to storage rooms provided for the use of tenants in a residential occupancy within a floor area, but not contained within a suite, in buildings described in Sentence 1.3.3.2.(1) of Division A.
Application 2: 
This also applies to tents and air-supported structures, as stated in Sentences 3.1.6.1.(1) and 9.10.1.2.(1).

Intent
Intent 1: 
To supersede the requirements of Sentence 3.3.4.3.(2) and permit a lower minimum fire-resistance rating on the basis that the rating of the separation need not be any more than that of the other assemblies that enclose the room.
