Application 1: 
Locking mechanisms on doors opening onto a public corridor that provides an access to exit from a suite.
Exceptions: 
except for hotels and motels.
This applies to floor areas or parts of floor areas used, or intended for use, as residential occupancies, in buildings described in Sentence 1.3.3.2.(1) of Division A.
Application 2:

Intent
Intent 1: 
To limit the probability that a person leaving a suite in an emergency situation will be unable to return to the suite if they encounter untenable conditions in the egress routes by reason of the door shutting and locking behind them, which could lead to harm to persons.
