Application | Application 1: Maximum number of horizontal
exits serving patients' sleeping rooms permitted to comprise the required
number of exits from any floor
area, in hospitals and nursing homes. This applies
to floor areas that are intended for occupancy,
including mezzanines as stated in Sentence 3.4.2.2.(1),
in buildings described in Sentence 1.3.3.2.(1) of Division A.
Application 2: This also applies to tents and air-supported
structures, as stated in Sentences 3.1.6.1.(1) and 9.10.1.2.(1).

permit an increase in the ratio of horizontal exits to all exits, on the basis

This is to limit the probability that persons
will not have a choice of sufficient alternative exterior exit routes in the
event that routes to horizontal exits are blocked or obstructed in an emergency
situation, which could lead to delays in the evacuation or movement of persons
to a safe place, which could lead to harm to persons.
