This applies, in buildings described in Sentence 1.3.3.2.(1) of Division A, to:

  • ramps used by the public as access to exits, as stated in Appendix Note A-3.4.6.,
  • tents and air-supported structures, as stated in Sentences 3.1.6.1.(1) and 9.10.1.2.(1),
  • ramps, as stated in Sentence 3.3.1.14.(1), and
  • horizontal exits where there is a difference in level between the connected floor areas, as stated in Sentence 3.4.6.9.(3).

Intent
Intent 1: 
To limit the probability that a steeply sloped ramp will delay the movement of persons in an emergency situation, which could lead to delays in the evacuation or movement of persons to a safe place, which could lead to harm to persons.
Intent 2: 
To limit the probability that a steeply sloped ramp will lead to persons tripping or falling, which could lead to harm to persons.
