Application
Application 1: 
Number of doorways required to be designed in accordance with the requirements of Article 3.8.3.3., where the doorways are located at barrier-free [exterior] pedestrian entrances required by Sentences 3.8.1.2.(1) or (2) that include more than one doorway.
This applies to buildings described in Sentence 1.3.3.2.(1) of Division A.
Exceptions: 
except as stated in Sentence 3.8.1.1.(1), which applies to:
  • houses, including semi-detached houses, duplexes, triplexes, town houses, row houses and boarding houses,
  • buildings of Group F, Division 1 major occupancy, and
  • buildings that are not intended to be occupied on a daily or full-time basis, including automatic telephone exchanges, pumphouses and substations.
Application 2: 
This also applies to buildings to which Part 9 applies [see Sentence 1.3.3.3.(1) of Division A for application of Part 9], as stated in Sentence 9.5.2.1.(1).
Exceptions: 
except as stated in Article 9.5.2.3., which applies to apartment buildings.

Intent
Intent 1: 
To limit the application of Article 3.8.3.3. to only one doorway per entrance, located in a barrier-free path of travel, under certain conditions.
