Application | Application 1: Provision of universal toilet rooms conforming to Article 3.8.3.12. in lieu of facilities for persons with physical disabilities
in washrooms used by the general public, when alterations are
made to an existing building. This
applies to buildings described in Sentence 1.3.3.2.(1) of Division A.

Intent | Intent 1: To exempt washrooms from the requirements of Sentence 3.8.2.3.(1) [and
of referenced Articles 3.8.3.8. to 3.8.3.11.] to be barrier-free, on the basis that the washrooms are
required to conform to Article 3.8.3.12. and will thus provide adequate
access and use in existing buildings undergoing alterations. Intent 2: To state the application of Article 3.8.3.12.
