Application
Application 1: 
Power door operators on doors that provide a barrier-free path of travel [as stated in Sentences 3.8.1.2.(1) and (2), 3.8.1.4.(1), 3.8.2.1.(1) and (2), and 3.8.2.2.(1), and Article 3.8.2.3.] at an entrance referred to in Article 3.8.1.2.
This applies to individual suites having an area of less than 500 m2 in buildings having only suites of assembly occupancy, business and personal services occupancy or mercantile occupancy, where the suites are completely separated from the remainder of the building so that there is no access to the remainder of the building.
Application 2: 
This also applies to:
  • barrier-free [exterior] pedestrian entrances required by Sentence 3.8.1.2.(1) or (2), as stated in Sentence 3.8.1.2.(3),
  • one doorway per entrance in a barrier-free path of travel, as stated in Sentence 3.8.1.2.(4), and
  • universal toilet rooms provided primarily for the use of persons of both sexes with physical disabilities, in lieu of facilities for persons with physical disabilities in washrooms used by the general public, in existing buildings where alterations are being made, as stated in Sentence 3.8.2.3.(4).
This applies to buildings described in Sentence 1.3.3.2.(1) of Division A.
Exceptions: 
except as stated in Sentence 3.8.1.1.(1), which applies to:
  • houses, including semi-detached houses, duplexes, triplexes, town houses, row houses and boarding houses,
  • buildings of Group F, Division 1 major occupancy, and
  • buildings that are not intended to be occupied on a daily or full-time basis, including automatic telephone exchanges, pumphouses and substations.
Application 3: 
This also applies to buildings to which Part 9 applies [see Sentence 1.3.3.3.(1) of Division A for application of Part 9], as stated in Sentences 9.5.2.1.(1) and 9.10.1.2.(2).
Exceptions: 
except as stated in Article 9.5.2.3., which applies to apartment buildings.

Intent
Intent 1: 
To exempt certain suites from the requirements of Sentence 3.8.3.3.(5), which would otherwise require doors to be equipped with power door operators, on the basis that the suites are limited in size and have no access to the remainder of the building.
