Application
Application 1: 
Location of spaces designated for manual wheelchair use in accordance with Sentence 3.8.2.1.(3) [which applies to rooms and areas with fixed seats in assembly occupancies].
This applies to buildings described in Sentence 1.3.3.2.(1) of Division A.
Exceptions: 
except as stated in Sentence 3.8.1.1.(1), which applies to:
  • houses, including semi-detached houses, duplexes, triplexes, town houses, row houses and boarding houses,
  • buildings of Group F, Division 1 major occupancy, and
  • buildings that are not intended to be occupied on a daily or full-time basis, including automatic telephone exchanges, pumphouses and substations.
Application 2: 
This also applies to buildings to which Part 9 applies [see Sentence 1.3.3.3.(1) of Division A for application of Part 9], as stated in Sentences 9.5.2.1.(1) and 9.10.1.2.(2).
Exceptions: 
except as stated in Article 9.5.2.3., which applies to apartment buildings.

Intent
Intent 1: 
To limit the probability that persons in manual wheelchairs in spaces designated for manual wheelchair use will infringe on or obstruct egress routes, which could lead to delays in the evacuation or movement of persons to a safe place in an emergency situation, which could lead to harm to persons.
