ObjectiveOA2 Barrier-Free Facilities

Application
Application 1: 
Maximum height above the floor of barrier-free sections of counter surfaces, where the counters:
  • are more than 2 m long, and
  • serve the public.
This applies to buildings described in Sentence 1.3.3.2.(1) of Division A.
Exceptions: 
except as stated in Sentence 3.8.1.1.(1), which applies to:
  • houses, including semi-detached houses, duplexes, triplexes, town houses, row houses and boarding houses,
  • buildings of Group F, Division 1 major occupancy, and
  • buildings that are not intended to be occupied on a daily or full-time basis, including automatic telephone exchanges, pumphouses and substations.
Application 2: 
This also applies to buildings to which Part 9 applies [see Sentence 1.3.3.3.(1) of Division A for application of Part 9], as stated in Sentence 9.5.2.1.(1).
Exceptions: 
except as stated in Article 9.5.2.3., which applies to apartment buildings.

To limit the probability that a person using a manual wheelchair or other manual mobility assistance device will not be able to be served at a service counter without the assistance of another person.
