Installation of fire alarm systems in an apartment building that is not sprinklered throughout, where each dwelling unit has direct access to an exterior exit facility leading to ground level, and
This applies to buildings described in Sentence 1.3.3.2.(1) of Division A.

Intent
Intent 1: 
To exempt certain buildings from the application of Sentence 3.2.4.1.(2), which might otherwise require a fire alarm system, on the basis that the buildings are limited in size and the dwelling units have a direct means of evacuation to the exterior [persons should not be delayed in reaching a safe place].
