Intent | Intent 1: To supersede the requirements of Sentences 3.1.8.13.(1) and 3.3.3.5.(9), which would otherwise
require positive latching devices, and permit roller latches on the basis
that doors would be propped open to overcome the inconvenience of patient
care staff having to use door release hardware to move into or out of a room,
frequently while carrying supplies, thereby defeating the door's role in smoke
control and compromising the safety of persons in the fire compartment.
