Application
Application 1: 
Minimum fire-resistance rating of fire separations separating service rooms containing a fuel-fired appliance.
This applies to buildings described in Sentence 1.3.3.2.(1) of Division A.
Exceptions: 
except as exempted in:
  • Sentence 3.6.2.1.(3), which applies to solid fuel-fired appliances in repair garages, storage garages or any other locations where the appliance could be exposed to flammable vapours or gases,
  • Sentence 3.6.2.1.(8), which applies when the service room contains a limited quantity of service equipment and the service equipment does not constitute a fire hazard,
  • Sentence 3.6.2.1.(9), which applies to fireplaces,
  • Sentence 3.6.2.1.(10), which applies to rooftop appliances, and
  • Sentence 3.6.2.1.(2), which applies to fuel-fired appliances that serve not more than one room or suite.

Intent
Intent 1: 
To limit the probability that fire will spread from a service room containing a fuel-fired appliance to other parts of the building, which could lead to harm to persons in the other parts of the building.
Intent 2: 
To limit the probability that a fire originating in a location outside a service room will spread into the service room, which could lead to disruption and discontinuation of service from equipment located in the service room, which could lead to an undue fire hazard in the building, which could lead to harm to persons.
