Application 1: 
Determination of the minimum number of water closets required by Article 3.7.2.2. [more specifically in occupancies not covered by the exception in Sentence 3.7.2.2.(2), i.e. in care or detention occupancy covered in Sentence 3.7.2.2.(9) and residential occupancies covered in Sentence 3.7.2.2.(10)], where only one universal toilet room is provided in accordance with the requirements of Section 3.8.
This applies to all buildings, as stated in Sentence 7.1.3.1.(1).
Exceptions: 
except as exempted in:
  • Sentence 3.7.2.2.(2), which applies to the number of water closets required by Sentences 3.7.2.2.(6), (7), (8), (12), (13) or (14), when a single universal toilet room is provided in accordance with the requirements of Section 3.8.,
  • Sentence 3.7.2.2.(4), which allows both sexes to be served by a single water closet in a building with a small occupant load, and
  • Sentence 7.1.3.2.(1), which applies to dwelling units.

Intent
Intent 1: 
To clarify that a single water closet in a universal toilet room does not count towards the total water closet count in a building, unless the requirements of Sentences 3.7.2.2.(2) and (4) apply.
