Application
Application 1: 
Power door operators on every door that provides a barrier-free path of travel [as stated in Sentences 3.8.1.2.(1) and (2), 3.8.1.4.(1), 3.8.2.1.(1) and (2), and 3.8.2.2.(1), and Article 3.8.2.3.] through an entrance referred to in Article 3.8.1.2.

This also applies to:
  • barrier-free [exterior] pedestrian entrances required by Sentence 3.8.1.2.(1) or (2), as stated in Sentence 3.8.1.2.(3),
  • one doorway per entrance in a barrier-free path of travel, as stated in Sentence 3.8.1.2.(4),
  • universal toilet rooms provided primarily for the use of persons of both sexes with physical disabilities, in lieu of facilities for persons with physical disabilities in washrooms used by the general public, in existing buildings where alterations are being made, as stated in Sentence 3.8.2.3.(4).
This applies to buildings described in Sentence 1.3.3.2.(1) of Division A.
Exceptions: 
except as stated in:
  • Sentence 3.8.3.3.(6), which applies to certain individual suites, and
  • Clause 3.8.1.1.(1)(c), which applies to buildings that are not intended to be occupied on a daily or full-time basis, including automatic telephone exchanges, pumphouses and substations.
Application 3: 
This also applies to buildings to which Part 9 applies [see Sentence 1.3.3.3.(1) of Division A for application of Part 9], as stated in Sentence 9.5.2.1.(1).

To limit the probability that a person using a manual wheelchair or other manual mobility assistance device will not be able to open all doors at the entrance without the assistance of another person.
