Application | Application 1: Universal toilet rooms provided primarily
for the use of persons of both sexes with physical disabilities, in
lieu of facilities for persons with physical disabilities in washrooms
used by the general public. This applies to
all existing buildings where alterations are being made, as stated in Sentence 3.8.2.3.(4).
This applies to buildings described
in Sentence 1.3.3.2.(1) of Division A.

Intent | Intent 1: To limit the probability that a person using a manual
wheelchair or other manual mobility assistance device will be unable
to access and make use of a water closet and lavatory.
Intent 2: To limit the probability that the only barrier-free
washroom facilities will be located in single sex washrooms, which
could lead to the inability of a caregiver of the opposite sex to
provide assistance to a person using a manual wheelchair or other
manual mobility assistance device who needs to use a washroom.
