ObjectiveOP2 Structural Sufficiency of the Building
Attribution
Application
Application 1:
Sway effects produced by vertical loads acting on the structure in its displaced configuration in the design of building structures.
This applies to buildings described in Sentence 1.3.3.2.(1) of Division A and buildings to which Part 9 applies [see Sentence 1.3.3.3.(1) of Division A] that are required to be designed to the requirements of Part 4.

Intent
Intent 1:
To limit the probability that the vertical loads acting on the structure in its laterally-displaced configuration will not be taken into account in the analysis of the building structure, which could lead to substantial forces on the structure being overlooked in the design, which could lead to excessive deformation of, or excessive stress in, structural components, which could lead to damage to the building.
