Application
Application 1:
Dead load due to partitions in areas of buildings where partitions other than permanent partitions are shown on the drawings, or where partitions might be added in the future.
This applies to buildings described in Sentence 1.3.3.2.(1) of Division A and buildings to which Part 9 applies [see Sentence 1.3.3.3.(1) of Division A] that are required to be designed to the requirements of Part 4.

Intent
Intent 1:
To limit the probability that:
  • the dead load due to partitions not shown on the drawings, including temporary or future partitions, will not be taken into account in the structural design, and
  • the load allowance for the dead load due to partitions not shown on the drawings, including temporary or future partitions, will be less than the accepted minimum value.
This is to limit the probability of structural failure, which could lead to harm to persons.
