Application
Application 1: 
Specified loads for the design of guards, their connections and their supporting structures.
This applies to buildings described in Sentence 1.3.3.2.(1) of Division A and to buildings to which Part 9 applies [see Sentence 1.3.3.3.(1) of Division A for application of Part 9] that are required to be designed in accordance with the requirements of Part 4.
Application 2: 
This also applies to certain windows in stairways, as stated in Clause 3.4.6.5.(6)(b).
Application 3: 
This also applies, in buildings to which Part 9 applies [see Sentence 1.3.3.3.(1) of Division A for application of Part 9], to:
  • windows in exit stairways that extend to less than 1 070 mm above the landing, as stated in Clause 9.7.5.3.(1)(b), and
  • windows in public areas that extend to less than 1 m from the floor and are located above the second storey in buildings of residential occupancy, as stated in Clause 9.7.5.4.(1)(b).

Intent
Intent 1: 
To clarify that loads acting on individual elements within the guard need not be combined with those specified in Sentences 4.1.5.15.(1) and 4.1.5.15.(4), which act on the guard itself.
