ObjectiveOP3 Protection of Adjacent Buildings from Fire

Application 1: 
Design of lateral supports and structural support systems for a firewall, where the fire-resistance rating of these structural elements is less than that of the firewall.
This applies to buildings described in Sentence 1.3.3.2.(1) of Division A and to buildings to which Part 9 applies [see Sentence 1.3.3.3.(1) of Division A for application of Part 9] that are required to be designed in accordance with the requirements of Part 4.

Intent
Intent 1: 
To limit the probability that the lateral support of firewalls will not be sufficient under fire conditions, which could lead to the structural failure of or damage to the firewalls, which could lead to the spread of fire from the building to an adjacent building, which could lead to damage to adjacent buildings.
